I (Norma) traveled to Natal, northeastern Brazil, in October 2023 to observe the annular solar eclipse…
The eclipse lasted 1h44min, and I observed it in the City Park, in an event organized by the Planetarium “Barca dos Céus,” of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in partnership with the City Part, managed by the Secretariat of Environment and Urbanism (Semurb).
Some videos have been produced… They are in Portuguese but we include them here…
We ask children, parents and teenagers what are their expectancy in observing the eclipse… What they like the most about the eclipse… If they plan to observe new eclipses in the future…
From this group of interviews we can observe the beauty of God’s creation represented here by the annular solar eclipse, that unites people from Brazil and other parts of the world such as the United States to observe the ring of fire…
Children, teenagers and parents are marveled by the ring of fire… It is a different spectacle in the sky, it is different from an usual total solar eclipse where you have complete darkness…
It can be a bit frustrating for some not to experience darkness, and I myself wanted more darkness… But there is something unique in observing that ring of fire…
When God made the sun and moon, he planned exactly how they would meet each other in the sky to produce such astonishing phenomena…
As we see on this website, solar and lunar eclipses have frightened but also marveled peoples in the course of history…
The solar eclipses are more impressive than the lunar ones, and especially in older times people feared that their “god” sun would be swallowed by some heavenly monster or demon…
But for example in this particular trip that I went to Natal, I could feel the great energy that people have in observing the eclipse… Did you see the video with people dancing and singing?
It is very Brazilian, people like dance and music… And it is incredible to combine the arts of dancing and singing with the observation of the ring of fire… It really brings an astonishing kind of divine energy!
Especially for children and teenagers, observing the solar eclipse is something very new… Probably the first solar eclipses in their lives! But even for adults it is something impressive… And involving…
I think God made the sun and moon and planned the solar eclipses to show us how incredible he is… Because solar eclipses are unquestionably the most impressive astronomical phenonema among all…
We hope this group of interviews could inspire you to get ready for observing your forthcoming solar and lunar eclipses… Whenever they happen close to you…
It is even worthy traveling if possible to observe them… Such as I traveled from South Brazil to Natal in northeast Brazil to observe the phenomenon…
Good luck and God bless you in your future solar eclipse observation! Clear skies!
